Whether you want to or not, you are now project managing a group of (hopefully) willing people to create a product that you are attempting to get done in an (un)reasonable amount of time, within an (in)sane budget. The product should be fabulous, and everyone should be gleefully happy by the end too. Because that's all very simple to do, right? It may not seem easy right now, but you *can* get a project moving smoothly with some key project management fundamentals, a solid tracking method and some people skills.

With the basics under your belt, you can figure out what level of process is right for your specific needs, using the minimum in order to be agile and able to iterate quickly.

Erin Caton

Erin is an organizational fiend as well as a snappy dresser. Her career began in the film production industry, moved into web development and then into project management, so she is both neurotic and well rounded.

She is PMI (Project Management Institute) trained but prefers a more agile approach to engineering and project management, because if all projects began with such arduous documentation, she fears nothing would ever get launched. She has had the pleasure of working as a Project Manager for ParadisePoker (game software in Costa Rica), MindSpan Technologies (software and web start up), BlastRadius (digital advertising agency) and now is a Senior Engineering Project Manager at Apple.M

When she isn't making lists or poking engineers with pointy sticks, she is cooking, eating, taking photos and cycling around San Francisco.
